Company sponsorship for USA CRITS Championship Series includes Transitions Optical “Out of Sight” Award
PINELLAS PARK, Fla., May 3, 2013 – The benefits of Transitions® adaptive sunglasses were on full display to the more than 30,000 fans attending the Twilight Terrapin Criterium cycling race last weekend, one of nine USA CRITS Championship Series races being held around the country this year.
The advanced photochromic technology in Transitions adaptive sunglasses was demonstrated to athletes and race attendees throughout the weekend, with an interactive booth experience allowing visitors to cycle on stationary trainer bikes while viewing a “through-the-lens” video representing the enhanced visual experience of Transitions adaptive sunglasses. Products featured included the Nike® MAX Transitions® Speed Tint, designed specifically for endurance athletes like runners and cyclists, and Oakley® Transitions® adaptive sunglasses in clear to black Iridium lenses and G40 lenses.
“The Terrapin Twilight race is a perfect venue to show off the benefits of automatically adjusting sunglass lenses,” said Grady Lenski, managing director, adjacencies, Transitions Optical. “The light changes significantly throughout the race, which begins during daylight hours and continues into the evening. Transitions adaptive sunglasses help enhance a cyclist’s visual experience so they can focus on the course instead of the changing light.”
Additionally, company representatives were on hand to award the Transitions Optical “Out of Sight” award to the male and female cyclists who achieved the longest break of the evening.
The Terrapin Twilight is the largest of the eight-race series, leading up to the USA CRITS Championship Finals in Las Vegas on September 19. The Twilight race features eight separate race classes and 150 cyclists competing through downtown Athens, Georgia.
